On the afternoon of November 27, 2022, the special session “Microbiome: The Inclusive and Diverse Society Inside Us” took place lively with 03 presentations from guest speakers and 03 submitted presentations from microbiology research groups of young researchers in Vietnam.

Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Vu Trung, Director of the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City, gave an opening presentation on the human microbiome, its role, application, and potential research directions for future study. With the latest updates in the field, Assoc. Prof Trung inspired many young scientists with the directions of research and applications on microbiomes in Vietnam.

Concretized by recent studies published in major journals such as Nature, Dr. Hiroshi Ohno presents 2 outstanding studies of his laboratory at RIKEN on the role of the gut microbiome in autoimmune diseases.

The third invited speaker, Dr. Osamu Kanauchi, joined VANJ2022 onsite at the University of Tokyo, presenting the results of a study on the effects of Paraprobiotics Lactococcus Lactis Strain Plasma on respiratory and digestive diseases in children.

After the panel discussion, the 03 best presentations on the topic of microbiology submitted by young researchers in Vietnam were also discussed enthusiastically. The presentation of the young researcher Hau Nguyen and her colleagues won the “Excellent Young Researcher Award” from the Organizing Committee of the VANJ2022 conference (The award was given to the 15 best research works in a total of nearly 60 submissions to the VANJ2022).

The session attracted nearly 60 online attendees and more than 30 on-site attendees at the University of Tokyo. Discussion questions come not only from the audience but also from speakers, both in person and through messaging via the Zoom platform, which created one of the most dynamic sessions at VANJ2022.
